POSITION TITLE: QUALITY SYSTEMS, AND LEAN MANAGER

NATURE OF POSITION: in a steel fabrication and industrial coatings
environment lead Quality initiatives in a major fabrication business
unit of a leading company. Be responsible for the implementation of the
TQM process, developing quality procedures, implementing and maintaining
Quality Systems such as ISO 9001, AISC & IQRS and acquiring and maintaining State certifications. Also be responsible for the analysis of internal and external rejects and present the results of the analysis to the Management team on a monthly basis. He/she will be actively involved in resolving external, internal and vendor problems, and will supervise/lead eight (8) Q.A. Techs., and clerical staff.

Principle Accountabilities:

Will be in the Quality Department and report to the Plant Manager. This
position will perform tasks as assigned by the Plant Manager, as well as
those tasks decided appropriate by the incumbent to achieve the
organization’s goals. This person must have knowledge to TQM processes and the experience or ability to implement the process within the organization. Must have the ability to develop and facilitate the training programs to complement the TQM process. Should have a solid understanding of statistical methods to improve company and vendor performance. Must be capable of interpreting quality instructions and specifications used in the processing and production of the products. The Lean Manager role of this position will initiate and refine Lean Manufacturing practices, principles and applications for the plant. The main goal of the Lean Manager is to bring about manufacturing process improvements, resulting in the improved productivity and delivery. Perform a variety of engineering assignments in developing production/processing methods and controls to meet quality standards in a cost effective manner.

Work closely with production personnel, administrative personnel, quality
assurance personnel, suppliers, customer inspectors to communicate quality
standards and procedures. This person will observe various operation
processes, identify areas requiring improvement, recommending and
developing actions to support and promote continuous improvement. The
incumbent must possess effective human relation and communication skills in
order to communicate effectively and convincingly to all group personnel,
suppliers, and customers. Communication comes in the form of conversation,
memorandum, presentations, reports and training classes. The incumbent will
use data gathering devices, personal computers, other quality control
measurements devices and personal computer database i.e. Access/Excel.
 
The incumbent must be capable of distinguishing conforming and
non-conforming quality. It is imperative that the person is capable of
reading, comprehending and properly interpreting specifications
(internal/external). Judgments will be made on regular basis and must be
done consistent and accurately.

The incumbent will be required to make decisions regarding the quality of
products and processes on a regular basis. It is essential for this person
to make uncompromising decisions consistent with the applicable customer,
industry, and company specifications. This position is responsible for the
timely and accurate of certifications, letters of compliance and other
related documents required by customers. This position must also take a
leadership role to instill pride and quality, in a positive manner, to all
organization’s personnel.

This position is responsible for ISO 9001 compliance as the management
representative.

REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES:

• College degree in operations management, business, or engineering, or 5
years managerial experience in quality assurance or manufacturing
environment;

• Knowledge of one of the Quality Systems (ISO 9001, AISC or IQRS), and
expertise in Six Sigma, and LEAN manufacturing;

• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office;

• Basic Math and Statistics;

• Knowledge of welding, fabrication, and industrial coatings
processes; NACE certification preferred;

• Knowledge of general employee hiring practices;

• Good writing, and oral skills.
